Silver Wings Café and Bar at the Armidale Airport to reopen
A passion for good food and local service is what has prompted Armidale chef Craig Nordstrom to take over the lease and reopen the Armidale Silver Wings Café and bar.
Craig is currently head chef at the Grand Hotel and with partner Ashlee Young will be reopening the Silver Wings Café and Bar on Monday, August 4.
“I have been a chef for 15 years and I love what I do,” Craig said. “I’m very passionate about preparing great food and it is also important to me to provide good service and a friendly local welcome for people arriving in Armidale.
“It is important to Ashlee and I that we provide value for money and quick service while also promoting the region as best we can through keeping our business as local as possible.”
Craig grew up in Armidale and completed his schooling at Duval High School before becoming an apprentice chef under Jean Pierre. During the past 15 years his career has taken him to Surfers Paradise, Sydney and Melbourne before returning home to Armidale where he has been head chef at the Grand Hotel for the past 18 months.
Armidale Dumaresq Council’s Economic Development Officer Kevin Abey said he was looking forward to sampling the menu at the reopened Airport Café as it was an important asset for the city.
“Armidale Airport received more than 95,000 passengers for the 2007/08 financial year and for many of those passengers, the Airport is the first impression they receive of our fine city,” Mr Abey said.
“In the months of October 2007 and February 2008, the Airport had record numbers of passengers through the terminal and for many of those passengers a good, quick meal is very important.”
The Silver Wings Café and Bar will hold an official grand opening on Friday, August 8 at 5pm for 5.30pm. It is open to the general public and all members of the community are welcome to attend. Canapés and wine tasting will be available. For catering purposes, please RSVP to Craig 0423 936 153
